CLEVELAND, OH –The Notorious B.I.G. and Whitney Houston are among the select few who will be inducted into the ever-so-famous Rock Hall on May 2 in Cleveland. Additional inductees include Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and T. Rex.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees are chosen by an international vote of more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry members. An artist can be voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first single, album or EP. So, in that case, the 2020 class had to have released their first eligible music in 1994 or prior.
Biggie’s album, Ready to Die, was released on September 13, 1994. It featured production from artists such as Diddy, Easy Mo Bee, Chucky Thompson, DJ Premier and Lord Finesse.
The Brooklyn Hip Hop legend followed up with 1997’s Life After Death, but he never got to see its release. The 24-year-old was shot in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997, just 16 days prior. The project is one of only a handful of Hip Hop albums to be certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
For the first time, the Rock Hall induction ceremony will be broadcast live on HBO at 8 p.m. EST on May 2. Performances and special guests have yet to be announced. Tickets to the event go on sale to the general public on February 1 at 10 a.m. EST only at Ticketmaster.com.
